The fashion industry is in mourning today as another person of note has passed away. This Wednesday, March 3, 2021, in the late afternoon, 54-year-old Filipino fashion designer Rocky Gathercole was discovered to be dead at his house in Diliman, Quezon City.
His departure was reported earlier today by coworkers on social media, who noted that a heart attack might have been the reason of death.
The most well-known of Rocky’s creations include dressing A-listers and Hollywood stars like Tyra Banks, Paris Hilton, Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, and many more. He was renowned for his avant-garde designs and show-stopping creations, which made waves in both the local and global fashion sectors and won the admiration of beauty queens, TV personalities, musicians, models, and famous people.
Before being well-known in the fashion industry, Rocky was a homeless child who began his humbling career in Pasay City after eluding his family at the age of 14. He subsequently relocated to the Middle East, where he spent 20 years. In 2017, a Maalaala Mo Kaya program featured a segment on his motivational life story.
He made his debut at Miami Fashion Week in 2010, which attracted interest from all around the world. Since then, exhibitions of his collections have taken place across the country, including in New York, Los Angeles, and other cities. His extravagant designs have been on the covers of numerous fashion magazines and have been worn all around the world.
